Traction control light wont go off

I have had my traction control light come on and wont shut off. Its only that light no others. Will an obdII reader be able to read a code if the check engine light isnt on? I tried to hit the button to see if it might do something, but nothing happens.
What are possible problems? It happened after I was headed home from doing some mud holes and trails. Runs and drives fine. It came on when i was going about 45mph.

The traction control does not engage.

Had this happen once before on another vehicle. It turned out that one of the wires going to one of the sensors on the wheels was damaged and needed replacing.
If I remember correctly, there was no CEL on nor would my OBD reader show anything with regards to the ABS malfunction.

When a branch took out my right rear sensor I had a DTC that stated 'ABS wheel sensor problem' (don't remember the exact DTC). You need an OBDII Scanner that has the ABS feature, not all of them do. I had a look at the sensors and found one that had a cracked housing and a piece of branch still stuck near it. Got the inexpensive replacement from eBay, simple fix.

I took the rig into the local shop that had a code reeder with the abs. Turns out that it is the steering wheel sensor. Code needed to be reset. I will drive it for a while and see if it comes back on. If so I will see if i need to do the zero out calibration.

Will report back .

I'm having this same issue right now and I can't figure it out.

I installed a lift over the weekend and had no problems. Drove it around and there were no warning lights. I took it into the alignment shop and when I get it back the slip indicator light is on and won't turn off. I also can't get the traction off, A-Trac or DAC to work, and it's hit or miss shifting into 4-LO.

I took it home and checked the abs sensor wires on both sides thinking that maybe I cut a wire or something. The wires checked out fine and it's not the issue.

Then I tried a zero point calibration test and that didn't work.

Now it's at Toyota and they just called me and said that they checked the wires and ran a yaw calibration and that wasn't it so they're still looking.

Wonder how much this so going to cost me.

Just got it back from the Dealer and here is the report:

"Confirmed slippage warning light is illuminated. Performed health check and retrieved trouble code C120A. Cleared memory and performed zero point calibration. Code C120A returned . Performed signal check for the Down Hill Assist Control Switch. Code C120A still returned. Created TAS case to receive further diagnostic assistance from corporate Toyota diagnostic technicians. Informed by TAS agent that codes were indicative of a miscalibration of the master cylinder pressure sensor. Performed signal check for vehicle incorporating down hill assist control switch. Test drive of vehicle rendered complete repair. Slippage light is no longer illuminated, and the C120A code has been cleared."

Super weird, the Toyota tech hadn't seen this one before so I really don't know what the deal is. They ended up charging me $115 for an hour of diagnostics even though they were working on it for about 4 hours. Still don't think I should have had to pay for it but didn't feel like fighting it.

IMO the alignment shop had key on .. doing alignment screw with the wires. this created error.

so now with the c120A the dealership tech was told to reflash the PCM.. now its fixed ..

alignments can cause this if sloppy work ..

pcm re-flashed fix the error so ABS is turned back on..

After I had my lift installed and they sublet the alignment to a small independent shop, the steering wheel was off center. Brought it back and asked them to resolve it. They did and when they handed me the keys, the guy asked if the Traction Control Light was on when I came in. Make a long story short, nobody knew why it was on so I said eff it and took it to the dealer, not realizing they were related until after I dropped it off.

Fast forward, I did my research and found that if the alignment was wrong it would jack up the system. Dealer calls me and said 'whoever installed your LED interior lights disconnected something and thats why the light is on. That will be $150 please.' When I pointed out that a. I installed them, 2 months ago and b. that I didn't disconnect a damn thing the advisor said they would talk with the tech.

Picked up the truck and they said that the tech removed each and every LED and reinstalled it. Then was able to complete recalibration. When I read the paperwork, it only referenced the re-cal. And the manager decided to cover it under warranty.

Lesson learned: Ask questions, challenge answers and never, ever use a cut-rate alignment shop.

Just had the exact same thing happen to my 2019 4Runner....Installed 3" Lift, got a front end alignment, and the Traction control light came on and stayed on after the alignment....
Took it back to the alignment shop, they put it on their diagnostic computer and got the same code (C120A).....
They fixed it but didn't give me a solid answer as to how....he said something about having to click the buttons for DAC / A-TRAC / so on and so forth but in the end, I believe they did a factory recalibration/reset....even though this wasn't a Toyota dealership, they had some fancy diagnostic tools/computers so whatever they did, they fixed it at no charge....Everything is working now...all good...PHEW!
