traction control vs. revos; tc wins!

a buddy and i were out wheeling in the george washington national forest last weekend. he has a stock 2002 pathfinder with bridgestone revos, i have a stock '04 runner with the POS dunlops.

there was a very steep incline going up the side of a mountain, the kind of incline that just begs to be challenged.

i thought for sure that he was going to kick my butt, seeing as how i have the dunlops. by the way he was licking his lips, i think that he was pretty confident as well.

anyways we both drive up, same speed and everything, and i kicked his butt by about 15 feet.

both of us had plenty of power, it all came down to traction.

i couldn't believe it! traction control did a pretty good job i guess.


earlier in the day we were going through some pretty deep water, following a lifted bronco, a lifted silverado, and a lifted explorer.

the explorer hydrolocked, we drove straight through.

sucks to own ford.

Not sure if it's just me or not but if I just romp on the gas it kind of overrides the traction system? It may be slow to kick in but you can spin the rear tires if your get on it hard. Happens more off road then when pulling out in traffic.


Were were you in the forest. I would love to hit some new trails when I go up again. I go up 3-4 time a year because my parents move to Abingdon 3 years ago. Went to Hidden Valley Lake on the KTM and found some cool trails this past winter. The hills were hard to climb once you dug the dead leafs up some. Slick mud like I have never seen before. Love the 58 road from Abingdon to Mouth of Wilson. I have a co worker that has a great cabin on 60+ ac in Elk Creek off of 21 headding to Withfille sp?. Have you been to Grayson Highland SP? have not been to grayson highland, actually i have not even heard of it. where is it?

i typically go in the western part of virginia, right off route 33 east of harrisonburg. there are trails that go up and over the mountains, all the way into west va.

they have shut down some of the better ones, but you can usually find something fun, especially this time of year when the leaves start changing color.

as for the slick red clay, beware. you can get stuck in that stuff in an instant!
