Trade my runner.

Should I trade it for an 02 wrx with 87k miles ? I love these cars..My 4runner has 120k miles and its an 01. Good trade ?

That depends on what you need. Do you need an AWD sedan or an SUV?

Also, realize that the turbo's on the WRX need servicing. They also require premium fuel. I believe the MPG is in the mid-20's, which isn't that much better than the Tacoma's. They are pretty fun to drive, though.

I'm not 100% sure, but IIRC, it's every 60k miles. Most people neglect to do this, which means replacing the turbos entirely, in some cases. I've never liked buying turboed cars, due to the owners never actually taking care of them like they should be.

Also, wasn't 2002 the first year for the WRX's in the US? I also hate the first year models, too. Always little glitches here and there.

Yeah I dont like the 1st year cars either. Ive never had a car. ALways trucks or suv. I cant decide. I just think the cars are bad ass.

Plus you will feel like your driving a clown car for a while since they are much smaller then 4Runners....

The subaru's are nice, but now that I have an SUV I don't think I could go back to a car, unless it was a 2nd car, 4wd or not.

WRX's are awesome but only 05+ and gotta get the STI if your gonna do it. if not i personally would stick to the 4r.

I was thinking about buying a 04, or 05 wrx. I wasn't going to trade the 4runner in for it either im keeping the runner. I say keep the 4runner buy a wrx later like me.

You just did all that work to your 4runner and you are already entertaining the idea of getting rid of it?

Just depends on if you want speed or offroad.

The turbo would be fun, but it might get expensive buying premium fuel with prices going up.

Turbos don't need any special service at 60k. They much like the rest of the engine need their oil changed on a regular basis thats pretty much it. On a stock turbo car the most you have to worry about is the car being shut down hot and the oil coking inside the bearings. On the subaru however there is a coolant "surge tank" on the passengers side fender that is designed to help the turbo cool down even after the engine is turned off. The coolant from that tank runs through the factory turbo and down in to the back of the cylinder head on that side. Very cool set up.

I will say my mom had an 02 WRX, and never really had any major problems w/ it. A few minor upgrades and they get to be lots of fun. Just don't think its an indestructible race car, the transmissions won't handle violent launches too many times. Check out the nasioc forums for more info on the good and bad of the old bug eyes.

As far as trading, there are too many variables including your driving habits/lifestlye to take into effect.

I would never buy a used STI. One the suspension is HARD. Two, everyone I know that has had one beat the crap out of it.

There really isn't any common problems with the first year the WRX was introduced in America since it had been in Japan for almost 10 years prior and the '02 model was just a continuation of the gen from Japan so not really a new car just new to american shores.

I would think they are somewhat. First of Subaru is not exactly a house hold name. When was the last time you saw a Subaru of any kind? Also, they look like a regualr Subaru Impreza. Which to me is another small sedan.

I suspect if you own one, you would see more on the road, kind of like we see more 4Runners on the road.

I think it depends on where you live. They're AWD, so you will see a lot of them in the snowy states. Also, they're a bit "granola", so you see them a lot in the hippie parts-- *cough*Oregon*cough*.



I really like the new STi's, though. And the wife wants an Outback. Not sure if I want to sell off the trusty Corolla, though.
