Traded in my 04 4runner for an MDX

It was a fun 4 years... but I traded in my 04 4runner sport V8 for a 08 MDX sport/dvd. As much as I love my new "car", I really miss my T4R. I actually feel kind of sad when I see one in Galactic Gray driving down the street. I've spent countless hours in my truck, drove all over the eastern half of the USA, caught tons of striped bass while fishing out of the back of my truck, slept in it twice, and never once did it let me down.

The MDX... Its nice. The luxury is all there. It doesn't have the same low end torque as my T4R. It feels much more like my BMW 330ci (sold that a while ago).... a very sports car type ride, but not as quick. With my 4runner i felt like I could drive over anything... with the MDX's stiff suspension, I want to just slalom around things. After 4 yrs with the toyota, I just wanted to try something different. We'll see how this pans out. So far, I'm very impressed with my Acura....

But I still miss my Toyota.

The end result of months of research resulted in coming down to to either the 4Runner or the MDX, but just could not justify the increased $$$ for the MDX, and I really liked the 4Runner.

The MDX is a nice crossover, you will learn to appreciate it. It is a totally different car, that serves a totally different purpose than the 4Runner. Mine hauls my family in total safety and comfort. Short of the the gas bill, I love having both to choose from.

OT: How do you deal with the blind spots out of the back window? I thought about trading in the '05 for an '08 but hated those blind spots.

I agree...the new MDX seems like a real nice crossover. The interior is fancy & modern even if it has fake wood. Acura really needs to use real wood in their cars...they are luxury brand for crying out loud!

I would not mind getting a MDX for daily driving, esp. one with the Tech pkg or something.

The blind spot can't be as bad as the FJ Cruiser...and i have learned to drive with my brother's FJ without much problem.

Congrats on the new MDX, it looks great! My brother has a 2007 MDX tech and we switch cars pretty often. I agree with everything said in the comparison between the two. The MDX is more luxurious, has much more technology to play with, and drives like a sports car. The 4Runner is much more powerful and rugged. I really love both cars- it is like the best of both worlds.

good choice...im actually looking at adding one to my garage to replace my GF's VW Golf. I love the SH-AWD and the suspension tuning although the throttle mapping does take a little to get used to.

The MDX was my 3rd runner up. It ended up coming down to the 4Runner Ltd or the Lexus GX470.

My wife and I both felt the MDX was too car-like. We liked the idea of stepping up into something. We also have two dogs so the added space was a factor.

Otherwise, the MDX is the best vehicle of it's kind.

Interestingly enough, the thing that put the 4Runner over the top for me was the back window and the cargo area in general. I couldn't bear to put two wet dogs in the back of that Lexus. Even the cargo area was luxed out.

Actually, I find the MDX to be a good deal. We purchased an 08 MDX back in November. We got the base model (which is pretty much loaded in my opinion w/ heated seats, BT, memory seats etc. ) for about $37.5K w/ dest. I agree; the ride is a little bit harsh compared to our 4runner. It def handles like a sporty car although it doesn't have as much low-end torque as the 4R. I've also noticed the engine runs at higher RPM's than the 4R at the same speed.

The 4runner V8 is displacing 4.7L making 260hp@5400rpm and 306ft lbs tq@3400

The MDX's 3.6L makes 300hp@6000rpm and max torque is 275@5000 so it is more of a car engine but it's sounds like a sporty ride.

I went the the completely opposite direction than you. I figured that even if I upgraded to something like the MDX I probably would not beat the 4runner by very much.

I ended up buying an 08 Altima with the big V-6 with leather and nav. It's a lot of fun to drive and I saving just over $100 a month in gas which is nice. I still have the 4runner though. Fiance is driving it.
