Traded in SR5 V6 for 4R SE V8 - differences

Went from a very base 2004 SR5 V6 4WD to a 2007 Sp Ed V8 4WD with JBL and leather. Did the trade 2 days ago. Already put 500 miles over the weekend on a field trip to do some astrophotography. Main reason for the trade is we are about to buy an RV trailer.

Here are noticeable differences:

- V6 did fine pulling my 5X8 cargo trailer full of astro toys. But going up hills and hwy entrance ramps was a task. With the V8, I barely felt the trailer there, and hills/entrance ramps were a breeze.

- JBL 10 spkr audio system blows away the standard audio system from audio quality, loudness, and dynamic range standpoints.

- The suspension system between the SR5 and Sp Ed are quite different, with the latter offering the smoother ride. I noticed this the most when driving over dirt and gravel roads on the observatory grounds. I look fwd to doing some offroading.

- I didn't want the leather, but the fleet salesmen said the only way to get the JBL audio system in the SE is with leather. I now like the leather.

- Power adjustable seats are soooo much better than the manually adjusted seats in the SR5. Loving the lumbar.

- Aesthetically, the SE is a head turner. Buddies asked me if the hood scoop was functional. I said "yeah...it functions as a wind-resistance gadget." While it looks nice, there seems to be this expectation that the V8 should have glass packs to accompany the appearance of the hood scoop. I like the wheels and noticed the brake calipers are painted to match.

- Nightvision mirror with compass is a much needed accessory...glad I have it now.

- Love the audio controls on the steering wheel. Also like the mini plug for the MP3 player.

Wow, guess I will trading up also from a 05 SR5 v6 model for a 07 SE V6 loaded, then re-mod with most of the same mods I have on the SR5.

When I bought the SR5 I only used it for work but since joining T4R.ORG and all the mods I want to also trade up. :p

But no V8 for me, gas in the Bay Area does not last long.
 
Looks great, Galactic looks stunning in the right lighting conditions. I should've put in for X-REAS when I ordered my 4Runner. Next time. :) IMO, the JBL needs a little more punch, my Camry's sub-less JBL does a way better job hitting the lows.

No doubt. I think we'll have $4+ gas by summer, we need another election to bring prices back to Earth.

That is exactly what I did about 1 1/2 years ago. Went from a 2wd v6 SR5 to a 4WD V8 SE. The BEST "mod" i ever did! I literalyl took every little mod I did to the old one off and re-modded the new one as soon as I got it. Haha, but no really, I concur with every difference between the two, but would add one more he wouldn't know since he alwayts had 4wd

-the SE (because of 4wd) felt very planted. The 2wd 4r felt sloppy in the front but the SE w/ X-reas made it very solid on turns and freeway ramps.

I was content with my SR5 V6. I bought it pre-owned with 27K miles and drove it problem-free to 65K miles. Had no plans to upgrade until we started RV trailer shopping. Once we found what we wanted, we started shopping for a V8 SUV. I couldn't find anything I would rather have. I test drove a Limited 4Runner with the JBL system, and that's how I knew I wanted one. The Limited's were too pricey for my wife's taste, so I was thrilled to learn the JBL was avail in the Sport Ed. It sounds better than the audio system in my wife's 2006 Audi A4.

Nice job! Quick question. How much did that trailer weigh? I towed a 6x12 cargo trailer that weighed 1000 lbs. empty plus 2000 lbs of additional cargo plus 500 lbs in the back. The V6 did alot better than I though and went to 70 alot easier than I thought it would be, but I haven't driven/towed the V8 Runna yet.

My astro toys trailer is 1100 lbs empty. I haul about 800 lbs of gear. The V6 SR5 did great. I've pulled that loaded trailer across the state of TX three times. I have no complaints about how the V6 did pulling it. Reaching 75 mph was not a problem unless I was going into powerful head winds.

I'm just pointing out in my post above that the V8 pulled the same trailer this weekend (see gallery for my photo) and I barely felt the trailer there, and acceleration was easier. That's to be expected with the higher torque rating.

That's what I thought! There were several Sport Editions in Dallas that had leather, but the leather was identified as factory installed. The 2007 4Runner brochure shows that leather is NOT an option for the SE. Odd. huh.

Well port installed is technically not the same as aftermarket. Your distribution area is like a Toyota franchise and probably has the capability of putting it on the actual sticker. In the end it really doesn't matter, the northeast distribution area does not put leather on after the factory. I believe the southeast and maybe other distribution areas do.

Yup, Texas is one of those states that has South East Toyota as their distributors. I believe all their 4Runners also have the hump-less aftermarket spoiler installed at port as well.

I actually like the port installed spoiler, but mine came with the bulkier factory installed spoiler. Port installed spoiler is $319, and factory installed spoiler is $200.
 
I went to a dealer to price out a 07 SE v6 with nav, leather and more.

They even included TRD performance exhaust system in the price.

$32,855 is what they offered.


But one thing bothered me about this dealer, I kept asking if the TRD exhaust was dual or single and they did not know. :confused:
 
ask what the sticker price for the trd exhaust is, if it is around $500 it is the single and 900 it is the dual... I think, as these are the online prices-ish for them.

Where did you get that price? I would be all over that deal. In fact, that's the exact vehicle I'm looking for.
