Trading in 19 on 2020 Venture

Other than the upgraded headunit, it seems like an overall downgrade to jump from a TRD to a Venture.

Off Road, not a Pro. Lateral move or upgrade.

I actually prefer the 2020 safety features and not the full electronic safety feature for new cars that include the electronic steering wheel, keep in lane assists, etc.
I think the safety features that come with the 4runner are enough, the rest are useless and very immature early development stage (ex, Tesla, Volvo, etc..).

I don't really want the computer to take control of my steering wheel. (computer software always have bugs no mater how good they are, There are always situations that arise that were not considered (coming from a software developer)). Not to mention the more complex system and more things to go wrong.

If you are looking at a full safety auto-pilot then go for a Tesla.

My previous car had blindspot monitoring and rain-sensing wipers... but I don't recall any other safety tech.

Blindspot I missed but already moved on from. Would still be nice to have though, extra precaution right? Mine had a subtle light to indicate someone in blindspot, and if you switched blinker to that side when it was lit it would flash at you.

Rain sensing wipers I absolutely miss. Living in the PNW, rain is part of life. Everything from variable rain conditions on a drive to being splashed by oncoming traffic or when you're behind a car, it just automatically adapts to any rain condition. WISH my 4runner had it!

The adaptive cruise control is... loved so much more than I thought I would. Definitely makes my drives easier especially in variable speed highway areas.

Lane departure warning is turned off... and I don't really think I'll ever use it. I do wish it had lane keep assist, and I KNOW I would use it for longer drives. I don't think people realize how many minor tweaks they make to stay in a lane on longer drives... this all but eliminates that minor fatique

Think of it this way: It's charging your phone! And it really does. I tested it.

Crazy but this is my biggest concern of moving from my Jeep JKU to T4R... I have an aftermarket receiver with Wireless CarPlay (Alpine iLX-107) in my Jeep that is fantastic. No need to do anything between short local stops and get full CarPlay features (maps, music, etc). Never need to plug the iPhone in unless on a very long trip and need to charge. True game changer to never have to take phone out of pocket. Really wish Toyota adopted the wireless approach to CarPlay instead of USB... unfortunately, I think it was to be simultaneously compatible with Android which doesn't have this capabilty.

Of course, I can use this receiver in the 4runner if I don't sell it with the Jeep but not sure if I'll have all the integration (steering wheel, etc). In any event, won't know for another month or so until my 4runner arrives...

good to know. If they come out with a TRD ORP color I actually want before the 6th gens come out, I might consider it. probably not though, as much as I'd like to have the radar cruise and heated steering wheel, my paint is pinstriped to hell and my dog and mountain bike have dirtied up the interior pretty good, and I'd have to take too much of a hit to upgrade.

Have you ever owned a Tesla? Doesn't sound like it, if you think its immature. It is very very advanced and incredible in action.

I am talking in general, and no Tesla's auto pilot is not perfect and yes it is immature. Nothing can be perfect without the sensors and complete road infrastructure. I own a new Volvo and it has as good of a system as a Tesla. The auto pilot is more like a nice to have and you can not rely on it.
Again if you want a Tesla, by all means. I like the simple 4runner and I do not like the bells and whistles that complicates the system and adds extra cost and unreliability.
Trust me,
If the newer 4runners started driving by themselves and they were unibody, I would not want one.

Excuse my naivety, but how are you trading in a 2019 for a 2020 and not taking on tons of debt? I guess if you're paying cash for the vehicles then maybe I could see it.

Wireless CarPlay is rare in the OEM, if out even on any brands (probably is but didn't feel like searching). As you already know, aftermarket is the easiest way right now. Just feel odd that you are bashing the 4Runner for not having it even though most new cars don't. You can absolutely use your steering wheel controls with the radio too, just need the correct adapter.

You were speaking in specifics. No one stated it was perfect. It is not immature at all. You speak without any true first hand knowledge. Thats unfortunate you are one of those people.
