Trading in advice

So I'm going to check out a 2006 sr5 v8 and possibly trade in my 2010 sr5.
I want the better financial situation, the v8, and the lower miles on the 06. I have swapped all interior to leds, have full husky liners and weather tech fronts, plasti dipped the wheels, handles, and roof rack.
How stock should I return the 10 before going in? There isn't much in the bulbs and liners so I'm not worried about those, but how will the dipped parts effect the trade?

I see it as selling your house with all of your family pictures and personal taste decor. Not everyone will like your taste.

As a minimum I would peel the handles. The wheels and roof rack will depend on how well the job was done and what the buyer market is likely to be (grocery getters or off-roaders). The mats should be seen as a plus, the LEDs are personal taste. As an army guy, I have gotten used to subdued lighting at night, so they don't appeal to me.

Plasti Dip has been around long enough, dealers know about it and shouldn't give you a hard time. But strathcona is right, it depends on the quality of the work.

Personally, I always pull the LEDs and just move them to the next car. But again, the dealer shouldn't care.

If the dealer tries to give you less because of any of what you've done, just give him your best "you're an idiot" look and tell him you'll put it back to stock, in your most condescending voice.

Actually, if you were really concerned about not losing money, I wouldn't even consider trading it in to a dealer. Sell it on eBay or CL or Auto Trader privately.

Dealer won't even come close to giving you the vehicle's actual value.

I agree with chitown. If one of your reasons is better financial situation, put in a little time to sell it yourself. You'll make more than the dealer will give you for trade in, and you're more likely to find someone that will like what you've done to it, so you won't have to worry about that.

Thanks for the replies. I have been quick quoted more from two dealerships in trade then i was able to get locally when I did try to sell it. Kind of surprised me as well but if they are offering what I'm looking for then I'll take it :happy:
