I currently have a 2004 sport V8 with 150,000 miles. I love this runner. My problem is I have a few issues that have come up. Front struts are leaking ( I have the FJ coils and struts swapped in), Manifold is cracked, and a few other smaller things. But my MAJOR concern is the frame. It spent its whole life in New England. In March we moved to Florida and since then I have noticed a huge increase in the rust. Im not talking about surface rust, Im talking about rot. To the point that I dont even tow my small trailer anymore because Im afraid the trailer hitch is going to fall off. My front skid plate completely rotted off and was not even able to reinstall. So I am going to trade it in on a newer model. Im thinking 06-09. I love my V8 but in Florida the 4wd option is far and few. So im thinking 2wd. I have seen a few listed as V8 2wd and think that could be a fun combo but those seem to be very slim as well. So that leaves me with the 4.0L . I keep reading about the head gaskets on the V6. Is it something I should be concerned about or is it a rare issue? Also what are some recommendations on things to look for ? I like the looks of the hood scoop even though it has no use, I also would like leather. Thanks for any help in advance.

Exclusive to v8? Or did you mean v6? Don't tell me I have something else to worry about now?
So sorry I confused the v8's common manifold cracking issue with what the OP was asking about (head gaskets). Didn't mean to mislead ya OP, sorry!
But I stand by what I said. Get the 4wd or you will regret it later.
I figured you meant to manifolds. I would much rather tackle a manifold then a head gasket so that doesnt worry to much.
I keep going back and forth about the 4 wheel drive. But when I REALLY think about it I never used it. I think I would benefit more from better MPG, less moving parts, less stuff to worry about breaking.

Uh unless your v8 is something special, it's always in 4wd full time, unless it's a 2wd.
