Trading my 15 4runner for new Tundra

Good morning from Gasquet California! Just wanted to get some feed back .I'll tell you my story. After owning a 82, 87, 89, 95 toyota 4x4, all 4cyl's ,4x4's,man trannys. I ordered the first year Tundra 4x4 limited, extracab, black with brown leather in Nov 1999. I drove the tundra for 14 years and painfully sold it at that time because i thought it was getting too many miles on it....I still see it around...makes me sick..Will always miss that truck. I thought of buying a tundra at that time but I then bought a 14 tacoma reg cab 4x4 4cyl and a Subaru cross trek( my practical side was winning out). i drove both for just over a year and didnt feel like either one was "me". Again i started thinking about a Tundra, but drove a 4runner trail. Didnt care for the power, sound of the engine, compared to a big v8, but again my practical side won out and i got it.Been driving it for 2 years. Its a great rig, but again it just doesnt feel like "me"! I must have thought about Tundras a dozen time over the past 2 years. Well, I went by the dealer where i bought my 2000 tundra, drove a Tundra, and they offered me a great trade in price and a great price on a 17 crewmax, limited! So i ordered one.Im excited, but also a little worried. Have a feeling I will miss a lot of things about the 4runner.

I did the exact opposite of you. I went from a 12 Tundra crewcab to a 16 4runner. To be honest, I loved the tundra. I would never have traded it in, except for one problem. Its too F'in big where I live. I live in the city, so parking that every day or trying to find parking for it got really tiring.


If I didn't live in an area where parking was always a issue, I would have kept it.

You're gonna love the tundra. The power, and size is intoxicating.

I went the opposite direction. Tundra to 4Runner. Tundra is a phenomenal truck. I just don't care for big vehicles. That's just me.

If I had to nitpick the 4Runner has more little things that the Tundra lacks. I won't point them out but you will find them as you go. They are small. When the new Tundra comes out, I will revisit it. My 4Runner is going to be around for a very, very long time. I do think Made in Japan > Made in USA when it comes to Toyota. I hope that's just me being an idiot though. :hiding:

All that said, the Tundra is great!! Just a big sommabeesh!

I love my '11 tundra RW. The wifey has a '13 runner and I still prefer my tundra. It is big and roomy just the way I like it. But than again I live in a small town where parking is not an issue.

My neighbor had the top-of-the-line 1794 edition and man was that thing massive. You could always hear him coming up the street too. Gorgeous truck, the Tundra--especially with the crewmax--is essentially a bigger 4runner with a bed. I think you'll love it.

If you don't mind having a big butt on the road where some places may be tight to squeeze then go for it. Upgrading to a V8 is always a no brainer, plus its more masculine.

well im feeling better about my decision. Going to pick the tundra up tomorrow and say goodbye to the 4runner....will miss many things about it.

I would probably trade either of my 4Runners for a Tundra. In fact I may add one here in a couple months. Completely different feel and driving experience. That 5.7 is also pretty nice.

Congrats! I had a 2008 Crewmax. Loved that truck. Had to sell due to divorce. :sniper: Still had the reclining rear seat which I think has been eliminated for some reason. Anyway, you are going to love that truck.

Learn how to turn off the nannies! Hold the traction control button for four seconds until the light stays on. Hold it down again for another four will turn everything off. Push the Tow/Haul button and thank me later! :trophy:

Join Tundra Solutions. Great guys over there with a wealth of knowledge. But then, I just shared the best advise EVER. Enjoy!

I'm thinking just the opposite. I've owned 3 4Runners, 2FJs and 3 Tundras in the past. I'm thinking of down sizing my current fleet and trading the wife's '14 Lexus GS and my '10 Tundra for a new or slightly used 4Runner Ltd. and buying another sports car.
My biggest concern with the 4Runner is towing my 4800# (loaded) travel trailer 40 miles to and from the campground about 6 times a year. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
Your going to love the Tundra though! It's a great tow vehicle.

I sold a Tundra to get my T4R. Miss the power, but hate the size of that truck. Also, the new half tons from ford and GM massively out class the current tundra. Reliability is better for the toyotas, but drive a sierra or f150. There is no comparison to the aging Tundra.

That said, a new Tundra isn't planned until 2021...

Ever think of looking for a very well cared for low mileage 4th gen V8 Sport Edition that's never been modded or monkeyed with? Could end up with a much nicer vehicle and pocket the extra $20-30k. Ive had my eye out for such a thing in a first gen Tundra. But unlike you not many seem willing to part with them. High mileage? Was your Tundra over 300,000 miles rusty and beat or "fixed" to near death? The early 4.7 V8's seem to think 200k is like medium mileage and the rest to the trucks seem nearly indestructible if given even reasonable care.

Ever heard of buyers remorse? Man i have to tell you, the tundra is nice but....I do miss the smallness and rear cargo space already. i hope this passes...would be a very expensive lesson if it doesnt..

I did all my remorse shopping prior to the 4Runner. The plan for me is to keep my 4Runner indefinitely and buy a sport sedan in the coming years. I love and I mean LOVE driving my 4Runner but sometimes I want my rear pampered and I want to go fast. I realized over the course of my remorse shopping my spoiled arse needs two direct purpose vehicles not one does it all ride.

Live with it for a bit. It was the first vehicle that took a lot of getting used to for me. The size is no joke. You will need to get creative with the Tundra and as I mentioned there are a lot of little things missing on the Tundra that the 4Runner has. Like the gauges, the door lights, easy access USB ports, little ticky-tac stuff. All and all though, the Tundra is a great truck. But it has been mentioned, other manufacturers really stepped up the 1/2 ton game.
