So help me make up my mind, I'm thinking of trading my 2007 4Runner Limited for a 2007 Tundra TRD 4x4 extra cab. Having a hard time making up my mind

I just sold my 05' TRD 4x4 double cab tundra to by an 03 4runner. I have had all kinds of Toyotas and the tundra was my least favorite. It had a lot of nice features but I just don't think it was as well designed and built as a 4runner. The new body style started in 07' did have a lot of improvements but keep in mind an 07 would be a first year vehicle, not sure if they had many issues with them. I would try to go newer. You will love the size and power but you might not like how hard they are to park and other little things like that.

Why would you tell him not to buy a first year Tundra when you bought a first year 4runner.

I did not want an 03 (I was looking for a 3rd gen) but I found one that was near flawless and could not pass it up. I love it, but as to be expected , it has a few 1st year bugs. So, That's why I would not recommend a first year vehicle (I am speaking from experience). Even Toyota needs a year or 2 to work out the bugs.

The Tundra and the Nissan version, I forget its name, are in not put together very well. Big trucks are not in the Japanese ethos and as a result, they come off as poorly designed and clobbered together. They are mechanically fine, sharing most of the 4runner's components; but it just isn't inspired.
Their smaller truck, the Tacoma is in my opinion a better line. I don't like how huge they have made it, but back in the 91-95 years, I consider that to be an awesome small truck, much better than the silverado or Ranger.
The Japanese don't do big well, they don't know how. If you want a BIG truck, go American. We invented BIG. The Ford F-150 isn't the number 1 selling truck for like 20 years straight for no reason. It is well crafted, structurally strong and reliable. The interior is always getting a re-do. I hate them, but that is because I hate huge.... but they do it well.
You want well crafted and placed into a great package where space and quality meet? You go Japanese. They built their success on small and reliable. In my opinion, the larger you go with them; the worse they do. They have almost made the new runners TOO large. Insane.
Anyway. Of the 2? 4runner. It keeps a better resale. Better ride. Better finish.

Honestly I don't know. But I know it's Ford's products. The previous owner which is the original owner had it installed the first week he owned the truck. BTW, it came with a set the a brand new take off 18" Lariat rims.

I'd rather rent a trailer or a box van 2x a year than have a pick up.

Not to get off topic but Hongster suggested an F150.....not even close to a Toyota in reliability especially 04-08 F150's with the 3 valve 5.4L. I have worked at a car dealership with over 300 cars and honestly is the biggest problem vehicle beside prob Jag's electrical problems. Cam phaser, sparkplug issues, and usually end up having to put motors in them. Ask any reputable mechanic about these trucks problems.....
On the other hand, if you are needing a truck for the bed space I agree about the new body style Tundra being too big for a DD, have you considered the 1st gen Tundra like the quad cab 04-06 body style or Access cab?

I have an 07 Crewmax too and my folks 07 4runner. I believe the 4runner is put together a little better and don't know if it is because it is built in Japan or just not the first model year like the 07 Tundra. Rust is no issue in Houston. Our previous vehicles were all Fords. Just liked these 2 vehicles better in 07.
When you talk size, power, acceleration for its size back in 07 the 5.7 Crewmax WAS leaps and bounds ahead. That motor is still scary and fun when I w.o.t. going on the on ramp on freeway. It has limo seating for sure and can pull a house if you get it with tow and 4.3 REAR DIFF!
I like the 4th gen 4 runner for what is is as well. I tried to convince the wife on one but she preferred a Subaru for her but my vote went to the 4runner.
It all depends your uses and as stated before, hook up a hitch to the 4runner if you are not going heavy.

I would take rust problems and frame repair over the issues those Ford motors have (I actually like the way Ford Trucks look!). Seems like even if you do everything right you break those idiotically designed Spark Plugs off in the cylinder head. Every shop I know tells me the same thing "you can do everything right and they break off anyways..." there's a 20+ page TSB from Ford on just spark plug removal, 3 pages cover how to take the plugs out, the rest is how to fix it AFTER it breaks off.
The went from not putting enough threads in their blocks and having to always helicoil them, to using ridiculously long and poorly designed sparkplugs that break off in the heads... I think Ford has come a long way in quality, but they still do some weird ass shit... and don't even get me started on their 6.0L & 6.6L PowerStrokes, makes me thankful I don't do diesels.
