Trading or Selling new tires for new-er tires?

I'm really not to happy with the Bridgestone Dueler H/T D840 tires that came stock on my rig. With 2,500 miles currently on it, what is the best way to go about getting rid of these current tires?

1) sell the tires and/or rims to a member here or to the public? What's a good price?

2) see if the tire store would be interested in buying my new tires for 80% or more of their retail value?

What's the most cost effective way to do this? I really don't want to have two sets of rims - although I haven't totally rules that out. Will the tire store buy the Bridgestones?

I don't know about your other questions, but most tire dealer will probably give you $50 per tire at most for your OEMs...and they do require you to buy the new tires from them. So, basically, you get about a $100 discount overall...you may be able to get a few bucks more (or less) depending on how cool the dealer is.

In all likelihood, if you can tolerate them, then it is best (financially) to drive your OEM tires till it wears and then buy new ones. Of course, i am Mr. New-Tire-Every-Year...so, i am really not the person to give you advice on this!

Guy in local DC area just put 4 with 1500 miles on Craigslist for $350 - appears no takers yet. IMHO they are worth maybe $200-250 at best. Since they are so very costly to ship your local Craigslist is best place to advertise. (Additionally, mounting/balancing is costly plus new owner has no warranty).

What did you decide? I'm in the same boat; the 840's seem worthless. I had the ABS kick on wet street streets last week. It was like I was driving on ice or something.

That's what I'm looking at too. I still haven't done anything about it yet. I have been traveling a bit. I might have to wait until the first (or now second rain) to get out and test them out. But those GY are exactly what I had in mind too. Too bad the Revos won't perfectly fit on the 18" rims. I was on the second set on my Jeep and loved them.

If it were a $500 decision it would be easier. $800-1000 is a lot.

My thoughts exactly. I'll post back when I know more about what I plan to do. If I'm losing traction and not having a lot of fun this winter, I'll make the switch easily for $1000. Or just get some new rims and keep two sets of tires. That seems to be the most cost effective solution. After 5 years, then I'll only be out the price of the rims which I may be able to sell and recoup some of the cost. It's piece of mind if anything else.

Just FYI,

I paid 200 dollars for my 07 Sequoia gunmetal wheels AND [Dunlop] tires with less than 100 miles on them...from Craigslist as well.

I just bought a set of 5 FJ Cruiser wheels, so I'm going to have my original Dunlops (with 13,000 miles on them) mounted to my Sport Edition wheels and sell them as a package on ebay. I've been following a few similar auctions on ebay, and it seems that a set of 4 original wheels/tires from a Sport Edition go for $500 - $550.

Then I'll list my brand new (unused) spare tire/wheel and sell than separately on ebay as well.

I'm mounting up my nearly new Discoverer ATRs to my new FJ wheels and buying a 5th matching tire for my spare.

EDIT: Actually, I'll probably offer my Sport Edition wheels/tires to forum members before listing on ebay.
