Trail Edition VS SR5 options??

im trying to clear up the options that only come with the trail version compared to the SR5, was wondering if you guys can help me out here:

Trail version comes with hood scoop, Sr5 doesnt
trail version has different wheels compared to sr5
trail version has crawl control sr5 doesnt
trail version has front and rear locking diff, not sure if sr5 does factory, or option?
trail version has shorter front and rear bumpers, not sr5
trail version and sr5 both have dynamic suspension system?

im trying to decide if i should get a trail edition or sr5, but i really want to locking differentials, i dont recall sr5 having that option? crawl settings i dont really care much for, but would be nice also

Just a rear locking diff on the TE. No front locker.

Also, the TE has skid plates (not thick but they can handle minor scratches and scrapes).

I personally like the CRAWL control. Kind of cheating when it comes to off-road though. Reminds me of having a game-genie for the truck (yea, when is the last time you heard of the game-genie?).

Not sure if the SR5 has a sunroof but the TE's have them.

One thing I don't like is the fact you can't get a a third row seating option with the TE.

TE has the tinted headlamps.

I just went through the Toyota website and didn't see an option for a locking differential for the SR5.
 
If you want /need KDSS or locking rear diff you need a trail if not sr5.
most if not all sr5 options can be done after market. you need to be honest with your self on how much 4x4 you need

ARB front and rear lockers are $865 each plus install cost. Might as well regear with available 4.56's while your at it!
 
TE has that SR5 doesnt have:

Waterproof seats, as mentioned locking differential (cant get in SR5 as toyota option), standard moonroof, ipod/mp3/usb, aux plugs (addtl set), better approach and departure angles, backup camera standard (option for sr5), Bridgestones vs Dunlop (usually), different alloys, skid plates, crawl control and *multi terrain select*, scoop, NO colored matching directional side mirrors--TE are standard black, bumpers black (I would assume wont sure scraps, dings and can be replaced easier due to off roading).....I think thats it.

The only thing I wished the TE had was the SR5 side mirrors..thats about it. TE has a meaner look. :gun6:
 
this is gonna seem petty, but I hate that the TE doesn't have the flip down overhead sunglasses holder. This bugs the **** out of me! One of those absolutely teeny things that you simply don't notice until after the purchase and you're driving down the street and reach to put your sunglasses away, and it isn't there.
 
SR5 does have skid plates. The TE has an add'l skid plate that covers the aft portion of the gas tank while the SR5 gas tank skid plate only covers the front portion.

Aux plugs & inverter are optional on SR5
Moonroof is optional on SR5
SR5 has optional leather, heated seats, and leather wrapped steering wheel (unavailable on the TE)

I went SR5 instead of the TE because white wasn't available on the TE. That was the one stipulation from my wife. That said, the SR5 is a better value as far as comfort features.... a well loaded SR5 with leather, backup camera, etc is about the same as a KDSS TE as far as cost. The TE is a better value as far as features that aid off the beaten path. I'd love to have a TE, but I think I'd definitely miss the leather steering wheel and seat heaters from the SR5.

I with you man! It sure looks like they could have put the off-road knobs somewhere on the dash or center console area....I am using the little compartment just forward of the shifter. Sunglasses fit but will slide out somewhat easily. I think I am going to stick a piece of adhesive foam along the edge to hold them in there....

Cloth seats suck!.....they get full of dirt, coffee, coke and farts. Only thing worse than cloth is the vinyl seats of the 70's. Heated leather is what my butt prefers. :toilet:

SR5 has sunroof with a package. Mine has it and I don't remember seeing one on several lots that I looked that didn't have a sunroof. So it seems more common for SR5 to have it than not.

I think the backup camera comes with a package. Mine has one.

I agree with the sunglasses holder. My Tacoma has it and wish the 4Runner had one.

They sure will! Gadget's checked into having his regeared and is the one that said they only have 4.56's out now for these new rear diffs. East Coast Gear is the one to contact for more info on gearing. http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/

TRDParts4u is where I saw it for $865 but you might find it cheaper elsewhere.... ARB Air Locker - FJ Cruiser, 4runner RD193

The front diffs are the same as the 4th Gens.RD111 or RD121 depending on gear ratio but 4.56's take the RD111.

Hate to break it to you but most of the "leather" Toyota seat is actually vinyl. Only the panels in the middle of each seat are leather I believe.
