Trail or Limited

Hey Guys, I am thinking about buying a 2011 4runner and have a couple questions...first off I think that the trail model looks the best, the whole part timr 4wd deal, I used to own Ford F-250's and Chevy pickups with the old systems and did use them engaged on icy or potentially icy roads without problems. Can the trail model drive in the same conditions with 4wd engaged and just dial down the wheel slippage to like the sand mode ? Secondly, can the sr5 or trail wheels and tires be swapped onto the limited ? Are they the same height so that all the electronics are unaffected by the swap, the height of the trail is listed a little higher (but the roof rack appears to be taller) but the sr5 is listed with the same height....Live in VT and work in ski resort area so need to get up and down mtns in all storms

The wheel/tire radius between the Trail and Limited are the same, so swapping wheels between the two (or an SR5) can be done with no effect to height. In fact, there have been several threads where folks here have looked to swap wheel sets between the SR5 and Limited models for aesthetic reasons. One possible options would be to see if the dealer would include such a swap in the deal. If you do go with the trail, see if the dealer will swap the stock tires for a tire more suited for your purposes (A/T tires). Most will tell you that the stock tires on the trail (the same as the SR5) leave a lot to be desired.

Yes, the roof rack on the TE is a bit higher than the SR%/Limited. Also, the cross bars are for the Trail are not interchangeable with the others.

Thanks for the info have you took your truck on any semi dry type pavement in 4wd ? If so how did it react ?
