Whoa...how odd?!! Freak incident?? That should not have happened...damn, even my old CRV did that same thing without incident! :lookout: I know that on my Mercedes, the air intakes have an outlet to let water dump out.

Well, i guess that a 4runner it is in the future....

Ok, an '81 Bonneville with a set of Firestone Snowbiters could've made that with no problem, I did that and worse many a time.

If the tale is as it seems to be (true with no "oh I forgot to mention...") that's a real design flaw and shameful.

I like those vehicles and would consider one when they get a small T/D. I hate to see they missed that bad. Considering his and my tax dollars kept that company alive they need to do better, they need to warranty his engine and get a TSB out there...

Seriously it probably was a freak thing and I doubt any car dealer would cover that under warranty since it's at your own risk when off road. I too either avoid too much speed in water or just avoid it.

The problem is that this video is now all over the net...good luck in that guy getting his insurance company to cover it! As i understand it, not many insurance companies (if at all) covers off-road damage...much less the factory warranty.

Isn't it shocking that Jeep could have messed up this badly in the design? I guess that they did not do the proper air intake piping when they switched over to the 3.8L V6 (minivan) powertrain? I need to stop by a Jeep dealership to take a look under the hood. It is just painful to watch this since i had so much hope for the Wrangler!

I'm going to review my policy but some off road situations (towing) might be covered but I'm checking to be sure.

I was with my Bud who has a "Trail Rated" GC Hemi Heep and his alternator crapped out after going through some water (my 4Runner had no problem). Heep would not cover under warranty. They said it happened off roading!
