Trail Ride In North Georgia

Hey guys,

A few of my buddies are looking for an area in North Ga or southern Tennessee to go up for a weekend camping/trail riding trip. Anybody know of any good areas up around that way? Ga/Tn boarder? If so let me know, and if you would be interested we are trying to plan it for probably a few weeks out.

Do a search for Jacks River Falls. It is in the small town of Cisco, GA near the GA/TN border. There are places to camp, trails to hike, and miles and miles of mountain roads to drive around on. Granted these aren't full of mud holes or anything that requires 4WD, but it's still fun.

There used to be some great off-road trails off Exit 290 on I-75. If you're going north on I-75, take a right off the exit, then drive about 8 miles and turn right on Sweetwater Trail. The road eventually turns to dirt, you then take a sharp left, and you can drive all the way back to the lake. I'm just not sure whether they have blocked these off though because there was debate about whether these were legal.
 
There is a place in the National forest called Beasley Knob. Google that and you can find info on how to get there. $5 access fee per vehicle. Can do it all in a day...a few different trails to take. Pay attention to how wet it's been. If it's very wet, it can be near impossible in spots and you'd need to winch through.

There is a place in TN called Windrock as well. There is a big Toyota meet there over Labor Day weekend, I believe.
 
My best friend and I camped at a place called Burrells Ford many years ago on the SC side of the SC, GA, NC border. It was in between Mountain Rest and Cashiers, SC and Highlands, NC, in the Oconee State Park (Chattahoochee National Forest Area).

Anyway, I've been wanting to make it back out there forever. I don't know if the trail riding there is really that good, but the camping and hiking was great. I know we had to make at least one creek crossing to get to camp, so that's always cool.

Also, I've heard of a place called Sheeps Wallow. Heard that it has some great trails and places to camp.
 
Hey there. Did this trip ever happen in north georgia? I am trying to do a similar trip and would like to hear if you found a place. I looked up the suggested play "beasly knob" and it said for experienced drivers only. Did you go there?

We have not gotten a group together yet and did not go. But, this is prime time camping weather i am going to try and get something together very soon.

I agree. Have you taken your 4runner camping in N Georgia before? Do you know of any spots where we can actually drive a bit to a site on some trails?
