Trail ride, trying to warm up freezing northerners

I am going to try to warm up some of the people freezing up north. Nice 74 degree day here today. I have to brag now because you can brag in the summer time when it is 110 degrees here. Trail ride along the Colorado river near Lake Havasu City, Az.

Are you going off road around Bullhead city? There are some really nice places to go there. Let me know if you want some ideas. I have been off road all over the area.

Yes, I need suggestions. I have given up on the area around Silver Creek Road toward Oatman and would appreciate any suggestions.

My last few trips I have gone through the Mojave Preserve to the Lava Tube, Aiken Cinder Mine and the Death Valley Mine. These are good for on the way there but I would like to find trails closer to Bullhead/Laughlin for a day trip.

Not anything you need a trail edition for. It is very easy back to the parking lot for the petroglyphs. Then a little harder but very scenic after that. Allow some time to walk back to and explore the valley with all the petroglyphs. What I do is go down the back side of the mountain to where it is not as pretty anymore and turn around and go back the other way. It seems all different just changing directions. If you want something harder and much more remote I can give you some more ideas. But you will want maps, gps and another vehicle. This is one of them. Secret Pass | Kingman Arizona Off-Road Trails | Trails.com heading east out of Bullhead city. Be prepared for a lot of dust on any trail around here.

I'm planning on driving my '16 TEP to BHC for a holiday next month and was wondering if there'd be any light trails to get off road for the first time. Sounds like Christmas Tree Pass might be a good one. Any other suggestions? It'd be my wife and I, solo vehicle.

Sorry I di not get back to you sooner. I just got back from vacation. Christmas tree Pass is very scenic. The first part to the petroglyphs is very easy. You could drive any car there. The rest is only slightly harder. I have done a lot of harder trails in the area on atvs, jeeps and my old 4runner but I would be hesitant to do them without a small lift and better tires. You would be dragging the bottom a lot over rocks. Let me give it some thought on some other trails you may be interested in. When are you going to be in the area? Do you just want to stay in the BHC area? How many miles are you willing to go from there? I am more familiar with the easier trails in the Lake Havasu area (1 hour 60 miles).

I actually wasn't planning to do much but float in the pool but then I threw the city name in the forum search and started thinking that if I got bored I could hit some open spaces. I've done buggies in open land outside LV, so I wondered if there'd be any trails/spaces nearby where an off-road newbie could get a little dirty or see something new.

I'd appreciate and recommendations you'd have! :yo:

I am not sure what VRBO is. Other than Christmas Tree pass I can not think of any particular area right around BHC that I would send someone out on their own. It gets very remote and is easy to get lost and no one else may come along for a long time. BHC is really not that scenic until you get out of town a ways. If you are willing to drive a short distance on rt 68 to Kingman you could do this Flag Mine Trail | Kingman Arizona Off-Road Trails | Trails.com
You will not be able to do the whole trail as it gets very rugged and long. The top part is very scenic and you can go as far as you are comfortable with and turn around. There is a good chance others will be there also. There are also other easier trails near the top. You could also do the trail I show in the above pictures near Lake Havasu City. It is awesome. You may be able to convince me to go if the weather is not to hot and it is not on a weekend (it gets to busy) but it will be a long day by the time you drive here (60 min), do the trail and return to BHC.
I just thought of another easy trail out of Bullhead city. It is called Silver Creek road and goes from BHC to near Oatman. There will be others around and some of the harder trailsI mentioned start at this road. It is very pretty around the Oatman area and you could stop in Oatman for lunch. Google Oatman for more info. In the Desert, Oatman, Arizona, Laughlin, Nevada, Wikimapia Map.

Reviving thread for other trails near Bullhead City

Have any of you driven the Secret Pass Trail that is mentioned in Charlie Wells' book? It looks pretty cool!

I do not have that book but are you talking about the secret pass trail by Bullhead city? If so I have done it several times but always in a lifted Jeep Wrangler. It has been probably 7 or 8 years since I was there but the last time I was there is getting fairly rugged. The rains had caused a lot of erosion with deep ruts and washouts. It may be better now with more use on it. It all depends on how much rain we get. Several years ago the desert had major rains and turned what used to be an easy trail into something that is only passable in an ATV, UTV or highly modified Jeep. Even when that trail was in good shape you would have needed a lift on a 4runner to clear the rocks and a good all terrain tire would be recommended. I would not attempt it in my non lifted 4runner. It would definitely damage it.
