If it's the factory tow controller, they've been known to go bad. Here's a diagram showing the fuses:

I've had two go bad on me. I'm using an aftermarket one at this point.

The diagram shown above is only for the 01/02 trucks - earlier ones had the wiring added at the port/dealer. Depending on year/region it will be behind either the left or right side panel near the tail lights.

Same here. Dealer installed unit was dead, so I got a kit from Uhaul and installed it. Haven't had an issue since then for the last 5+ years.
