Trailer wiring

Hi, I have a 2011 SR5 with the harness that came with it. Ive never erally looked at it. What do i need to do to be able to connect it to a trailer?

I have seen a plug further under the bumper. Do I need to connect a flat plug to the harness that came it ? And then just plug it under the bumper? I think I can figure that out.

I know, this is probably pretty Simple.....

if your runner has a tow package it will have 4 pin and 7 pin connector either mounted to the bumper near the hitch mount or under the bumper. to hook it up is easy locate the connector and plug in. the trick is runners don't come with factory electric trailer brake controllers if your trailer has brakes and you want them to work you need to get a controller. some trailers have hydro brakes that work as the tow vehicle slows down. hope some of this is helpful.

Thanks! It did come with the tow package. I do have the wiring harness that came with it and receiver.

My trailer is just for a small boat now....so no brakes.

I have had my 4 runner for two months. The 7 pin should be on the left side of the hitch and I was very surprised how far back it was. My trailer 7 pin cable was long for the ford expedition (now replaced) but for the 4Runner it is almost to short.

The harness you speak of us most likely the trailer brake harness..that will connect a brake controller to the correct wires needed inside the cab.. most small trailers are not set up with brakes and only use a 4 pin flat connector.. you will find a wire loom with the 4pin on your trailer. Thats what you plug into the back ov the truck.. be sure to check your lights, sinals, and brake lights

Hey all thanks. I just took a closer look and even had an electrician who happened to be here. I guess I'm already wired and just need to plug it. The square harness is what was confusing me. I don't have the trailer registered yet so haven't bothered to try yet.

on the bright side those pins look great!

Make sure you keep those caps/covers on.
