So im looking at a 4runner that is around 600 miles from my home. It is a 99 sport with 200xxx miles and has never had the external cooler added or radiator replaced.
What im wondering is if this is something I could do in the parking lot if I had to tools and parts before I take the drive home. The truck is in AMAZING shape and this is the only thing Im worried about.
I have worked on cars nearly my whole life and am capable of doing anything from fluid changes to engine swaps ect. Im just wondering if anything special is needed that I wouldnt be able to fit in a tool kit on the plane.
Can I simply unplug the lines from the radiator, splice in a coupler into the soft rubber to the new lines and run to the cooler (I would run all new lines later on) or do I need to go all the way back to the transmission with new lines?
If I can splice into the old lines right out of the radiator, it seems like this would take no more than 30-45 minutes to pull the grill and skidplate, undo the old lines, plug the holes on the radiator, connect the old lines to the new ones with a coupler and zip tie (again temporarily) the cooler up.
Am I correct on this?
Also are their any auto parts stores that carry the coolers? I will be near seattle so Im sure somewhere would have one but just wondering input. I just dont want to have to buy and pack the cooler on a plane also and just incase I dont buy the 4runner.

Edit: also if anyone knows the sizes of the couplers (either double sided barbed nipples with hose clamps or barbed nipple on one side with a fitting and the mate for the other side), I would appricate it.
