Tranny Cooler Question

Today I put in a B&M 70268 Cooler along with one of those Permacool spin on filter that another guy had on his. However I put the gauge up as well. Sorry no pics, right now but will get some when it's light out.

Anyway...how much fluid are you guys adding when you add an external cooler? And what is the proper way to check the fluid when cool/hot?

I ran the truck for a while as I also put a new radiator (my own dumb mistake, don't ask...but probably could've used one anyway) in. But I let the truck run a while and then put it in R, D, L, 1, 2, etc. and pulled it back in. Shut it off then checked. I put a half a bottle in and it's still read low on the cool side. So I used the rest of the bottle and went to R, D, L, 1, 2, etc and checked again with engine off and it was a little bit more than cool.

So how and when do I check when its hot? Drive the actual truck and look at my temp gauge (got the ultimate spin on filter kit) and then check? Running or not running?

Adding the spin on, the cooler and some extra line you will probably be adding about a quart. Depends on the size of the filter you are using.

Check the trans fluid level with the engine running. Driving a little in stop and go traffic should get it warm enough. From what I've read on here most people don't see too much of a difference from cold to hot as far as dipstick level.

Here is a link to ATF check. Looks like you did it 99% correctly. ATF is checked on level ground with the ENGINE RUNNING. Also I agree with kball, should only be about 1qt extra.

I have yet to install my Tranny Cooler that I got a couple weeks ago. Partly because I want to add the external filter and do full fluid swap to AMSOIL. Sounds like you have been busy with some nice mods and hope it all goes smoothly.
