tranny cooler

I just mounted a tranny cooler on my 99 limited, wondering if anyone has done the same and where did you run your lines? I think I found a way, but just wondering if anyone has been there done that!

You can run them next to the AC lines or cut your own hole out of the metal if you don't feel there is enough room.

Some have done it either way. Either way put some heater hose around the tranny hose where it would wear.

And what cooler did you go with, and did you use a remote thermal bypass?

I went with a Long Tru-cool LPD #4454, do you have any pics of your line install. Thanks for the reply.

What are you towing? My # was recommended by the supplier, it is supposed to be more than adequate for anything the 4runner could ever tow. Remember that it is possible to overcool your tranny, heat kills, but they are designed to run at a given temp.

I have not installed mine yet. I followed Goats build on YT and saw a few other also. I will be totally bypassing the radiator cooler. The 4454 is what they have used also. No one has reported any problems.

The 4490 is just a little bigger. I ran it past a few people on YT and they seemed to think it would work also.
I may still go with the 4454 because I know it fits so well.

Heres the bypass they recommend if it is below 32 for extended period of times. I will probably run mine with no bypass.

I see why you are using a bigger one, by-passing the rad. I installed my cooler, the 4454 fits nicely on the drivers side. I just have to route my lines (the kit didn't come with enough line). Make sure to use ONLY lines approved for ATF, other lines such as fuel, coolant, will swell and soften. I'll try some pics when I'm done. Why do you feel the need to by-pass the rad? Just curious.

The in radiator cooler is known to leak or burst causing the tranny fluid to mix with the coolant. For the 75 bucks the aftermarket cooler is it can save you thousands later for a new transmission. Just run a hose between the inlet and outlet of the radiator tranny cooler if you want to bypass it.
