Tranny cooler?

Hey guys I just bought my 97 4runner sr5 last week and my buddy just picked 99 limited today for himself and he were comparing the two and I was telling him about the stories of the strawberry milkshake of death and needing a tranny cooler to resolve this underlying problem.

I was showing him on mine where on the radiator I think it should go and low and behold I see this small box like tranny cooler looking thing that ive seen in pictures on this forum mounted more on the left side of radiator. I didnt get a picture of it I will do that tomorrow and post it but do you guys think that my 4runner already has one? I looked at my buddys and there was nothing on his radiator.

AFAIK, no stock runner came with a tranny cooler.....PO must have installed one.

Yeah it wouldnt be stock! who ever owned it before me not only took really good care f it but also did some small mods with the towing, remote sart put some bfg a/t ko's stereo stuff and a k&N, so maybe this person did this mod i'm not sure

All auto tranny 4Runners came with an internal transmission cooler which is located at the bottom of the rad.
The small rad you see may be an aux. external trans cooler or may be the a/c condenser. Trace the lines and you will know.

also did some small mods with the towing...

If they used it to tow often, then they likely installed a tranny cooler.
