Tranny fluid and capacity

I have a 98 4Runner w/3.4 eng and A340F A/T. I've drained the fluid 2x so far replacing the amount that came out - approx 3.75 qts. The manual says a drain and fill should only be just over 2 qts. Level on stick looks tight. Anyone else encounter this?

I've used Castrol Import Tranny Fluid - is that correct? Thanks.

I don't believe that capacity amount you've referenced takes into account the amount trapped in the torque converter. I'm not sure what it holds without referencing the manual.

A total fill is just under 11 Qts.

If you pull the pan and drain every last drop you can like that you can squeeze around 3-4 qts out.
IMO that is utterly worthless, especially if you decide to replace the regular ATF with synthetic fluid you are basically just dirtying up 3-4 qts of good fluid for nada.

Best thing to do is to take it to a T-Tech machine and have them do an actual drain and fill.
Will take about 12-13 Qts I think overall.
But 99.9% of the fluid is changed to new fluid and it does so by using the trucks own transmission pump to pump out the old and in the new.

Everything else is really just a waste of fluid.

I mean would you drain just 1-2 qts of engine oil out and change that and call it a good deal?

Better than nothing at all I suppose but best is to drain it ALL and replace 100% of it with Full Synthetic ATF.
