tranny flush results....

So i decided to do the tranny drain and fill, so i picked up 4 1 gallon jugs of tranny fluid, dropped fluid and changed, then took 10 mile drive, drained and refilled again, then another 10 mile drive, repeated again, then on last drain went few days about 100 miles, truck shifts better and fluid is completely clean and bright red again, was like dark brown when i started (org fluid) 144,000 miles on it. just thought i would let you guys know how well this seemed to work, there alot of talk about it on here, total cost was about 47 dollors, i plan to do it one more time in about 200 miles. :thumb3:

hahaha... talk about overkill. I think it would be better to change in ever other year... you would produce better results.

It might be overkill for regular tranny maintenance but the op said the fluid was dark brown from neglect. A cheap fill and drain X 3 or 4 is the easiest and cheapest way to get the old burned fluid out. I did the same thing on mine when I bought it. The previous owner thought the fluid looked fine..??! I drained and filled 4 times and only drove it around the block. Each time I drained it the fluid looked better and better. Now it looks like brand new and when I change the oil I'll drain and fill it again one last time. Then start doing regular fluid changes. I think you did the smart thing 99.

I did the same thing on mine although I didn't change the fluid that many times. Just drained and filled, drove about 400 miles, then drained and filled again.
I bought my 4runner with 120k's on it and no records of maintenance so I was concerned about the condition of the fluid. I think $47 is a real cheap way to clean out the old fluid and have a little peace of mind. If anything I would say to drive 100 plus miles before changing instead of only 10 when doing this sort of thing just to give it a good working through, but it seems like you've got the job done either way. I am debating what oil to use in my tranny, thinking Redline or Mobil 1.

I used cheap walmart dexron equivalent for the quick fill then drain part. Then filled it the last time with Valvoline dexron VI synthetic. I'll use the dex VI from now on when I drain and fill at oil changes.

I live in upper ny, near plattsburgh, i just used the cheap dextron3 fluid from advanced auto was 11 dollars a gallon, i am going to swith over to valvoline high milage dextron next. i dont think its good idea to swith over to synthetic in high mileage tranny thats never had synthetic put in it. its easy and will take 4 quarts when you drain and fill it, its simple and easy to do.:dancin:
