Tranny squeal in car wash

Hey all, 2001 w/213k, 3.4L/auto, 4x4. When the underside gets wet (i.e. rain, car wash) I get a squeal that sounds like a bad bearing or u-joint. Once it dries off, it goes away.

Any ideas or things to check? Thanks in advance!

Did you happen to get your belts wet? As they will squeel until dry.

Hey, thanks for the reply. It’s not a typical belt squeal sound. And it changes “pitch” when I shift into neutral and drive. It’s definitely coming from the driveline.

Interesting. The only thing that I could see getting wet would be the flex plate as nothing else Is really under there transmission related. They have a plate to cover them and also have a drain hole at the bottom of the case if water gets in there.

When was the last time you greased your universals (if its 4wd)

Joints are lubed every oil change at 2500-3000 miles. I’m hoping it’s just a joint going bad.

Very possible. The first one to mostly go is the one on the rear 3rd member.

I just never had one just when i wash it though.. Mostly they start vibrating or making noise its over.

If you put 4 jack stands see if you can shake the u joint. If it has play in it, its done. Mostly you can see the movement on the cups.
