i have an 87 22rte 4R and i want to swap the auto tranny with a 5 speed . my question is will it affect the turbos function ?

No, the turbo will work regardless of what transmission you have.

The r151f tranny is what came with the turbo models If I am not mistaken.

Yes the r151F Is the transmission that came in the 86-87 turbo trucks.

thanks for the info fellas . although auto trans is a luxury , i really dont mind driving manual. now the next question would be if the same year 4r manual trans will bolt up to my block ?

The r151f is a r150f with a lower 1st gear to help with the turbo lag and a bellhousing that adapts to the 4cyl engine. Good luck finding one, they are pretty rare.

But you should be able to use any 4cyl trans from a 22r(e)

Any thing that fits a 22r 22re block will bolt to a 22rte. You'll need a crank bearing and to make sure you remove the spacer between the crank and the flywheel. I ran a G52 trans on mine.

No one has mentioned it but you'll also need the correct t-case to go with what ever trans you use, you can't use the one from the auto.
