So I'm a newbie.. bought a high milage '96 TR4..259,000 check engine light wa son.. no biggie I thought.. (Yeah that's me) anyway.. long story shorter..
Took into dealer to get that and a handful of other things checked out (after purchase of course) Tranny is giving two codes..dont recall exact code off hand but I have a bad solenoid and a bad temp sensor. Service Advisor immediately comes out with "you're gonna need a new transmission".. my jaw hit the floor.. 1st thought was "why cant these be replaced and call it good?" ..Saw a thread on here about the solenoids and where they are located etc.. so I'm thinking fine, I get the new parts and stick them in myself.. all good..
Brother if mine is a mech in another State. He calls his buddy at Toyota who is a mechanic and says that I could repl. those parts but likely will have same issue..
WTF?? Whats causing these things to go bad? :cry2:
The good news is I was able to find a used tranny for cheap..gonna replace it next weekend (along with fixing the transfer case leak)
