Trans America Trail

I have been reading a lot about doing the Trans America on dual sport motorcycles and that's definitely still big on my "wants" list. Just came across this posted on Tacoma World and realized the Trans America is within my grasp now:

Any interest from my forum brethren? The route/trail maps are available. I think this would be really cool! If we could get an organized (loosely) trip put together folks around the country could jump in and participate for as much or as little as they wanted to. Anybody have any interest in making this happen?

David that would be such an awesome trip! And if those LR3's can do it in Conti street tires I'd guess it is well within the capabilities of our trucks!

Well, you don't have to do the whole thing at once!

Seriously, the 63 days referenced was the original crossing of America by car, not the Trans America trail today. The Trans America is ~3,000 miles and my understanding is the map planning for it is laid out in roughly 200 mile bits per day. That equals 15 days start to finish if you drove the whole thing straight through.

Frankly, I don't think I'm that tough, but the western half looks intriguing! I am trying to offroad more so I can get my skills up. Just got back from a weekend at Sicily Island Louisiana with a bunch of my Tacoma Brethren. These are mostly younger guys and hard chargers. They put their trucks through some hard trails, harder than I had run in my Tacoma to date - it was an education....

Funny I found this, I am currently in the planning stages and leaving in April for this epic trip. I will be making the journey in my 2015 4Runner Trails. I'm stoked! I will be making the trip on the trans am trail and then on the way back will take rt 66 and then connect back with the trail.
