Trans cooler/ fluid question?

All of you that added a trans cooler to your V6 runner did you fill up the cooler unit before you put the last hose on the cooler?

I hear it's quite hard to add fluid to the trans so this is why I ask.

In 2002 when i got my 3rd gen 4runner and i added a trans cooler, i did NOT add any additional fluid. However, i did come back to the shop where i got it done a week later to check the connections (for leakage) and to check the level.
