trans cooler instal

So i picked my 4runner up 3 days ago. Drove it 300 miles back to our shop in slc and parked it. Im headed to vegas for a race now in the chase truck and while im in vegas, im going to grab a B&M 70268 trans cooler and do the install on sunday when I get back to slc before finishing driving another 350 miles home to boise.

I figure its cheap insurance right.

Any tips when doing the cooler like what direction to put the lines and what direction to mount the cooler? I will be building custom brackets to hold it so I dont have to use the zip ties.

This board has been great and Im going page by page back threw all the threads reading anything I feel might be useful. Im on page 217 now!!!! :lol:

the truck is in salt lake city right now. I am actually about an hour outside of vegas as im typing this. I will be back on sunday night and do the install before I head back to boise on monday morning. Im not worried about the install. I have been working on cars for over 10 years. Just wondering about optimal placement, hose routing, ect.

i find that the easiest way to mount is just to attach to the radiator with the clips that comes with the kit dont have to warry about unbolting and stuff and work just ask good , and for hoses just cold the old ones and connect the new ones with the adapter they give you, deff need extra hoses tho 4 feet is good, and when you all done just zip tie the hoses together and put the skid plate back on, hope that helped
 
I am doing this over the weekend as well, the link above should walk you through everything. The big thing is determining the in vs. out hoses, as everyone says you want to mount the cooler with the "in" hose at the top and the "out" at the bottom. I picked up some extra hose and hose clamps, as the how-to said they are needed.
 
Why does everyone go with the 70268 over the larger 70264? Does the 70264 not fit as well in the space available?
 
well guys I did the install last night after I got back from vegas. I used the straps that came with the cooler to mount it and I mounted the cooler with the ports facing down. I will take a few pictures tomorrow and put up a new thread about it to get some input but I had to drive the car another 350 miles today to get it home and everything seemed fine and the cooler never got more than warm to the touch so I think it works fine.
 
Did this install today as well. I installed a TruCool cooler and I thought it was a very straight forward project especially with the help of the write up. I would say it was about an 1 1/2 hours of actual worktime but took me much longer because I work very slow and it is almost inevitable I have to run to the store for something I forgot...doh!

Anyway, my observations are: the most time consumer parts were removing the old lines. I cut them off as many suggested which made it easy. It's just that it is kind of a tight space. I was glad to be a woman with small hands, I can't imagine some of you guys with bear claws! :) I used the line included with the cooler as well as purchased an extra 7ft (only used about 4-5ft tho). Mounted with the zip ties and it seems solid. I closed off the radiator with new line as well. Haven't had a chance to ride it yet to test for leaks but will probably tomorrow. Oh an I lost very little ATF fluid, just a few ounces or so (not sure if this is because my truck had been sitting a day), wasn't much in the lines.
