Trans pan gasket

the hardest part about getting the trans pan off is having to pry it off without bending the mating surface of it or the tranny.
i would use whatever dex is newest dex 4 prob is best for the tranny (be sure to replace the filter while your in there)
the oil is really up in the air depending on what climate you live in, the best overall oil prob some 10-40 synthetic, or 10-30 if you live in a very cold climate. i live in phoenix so my baby gets 20-50 in the summer and 10-40 in the winter.
as far as filters go.. use a fram or better.. those cheap ones work, but when it comes to basic maintainence its worth the extra $2 do upgrade to fram.
i personally run the the fram extra guard with the anti back drain valve, it prevents dry starts and keeps your oil passages filled with oil and ready to go.

If this is your first time dropping a transmission pan on these i would undo the front sway bar from the frame, remove front drive shaft then unbolt filler tube from motor and exhaust. The filter doesn't need to be changed due to the fact it is a screen filter, just spray it really good with brake and part's cleaner. Fluid i would run Dex 3 like it call's for. Also if the pan is stuck on there, hammer a scrapper between the gasket and transmission and it will pop right off. Good luck, it's an easy fix.
true with the filter, in my experience though, i found that the gasket itself is $14 and the filter kit with the gasket and filter is 20.

oh and just another personal preference, i would add some "trans-x" it's cheap and rejuvenates the seals and o-rings to help extend the life of the tranny. i was slipping and added some of this stuff and after about a week the slipping went away, and i got another 20,000 miles before the slip came back. that alone proved to me that it works

Definately remove the sway bar, it gets in the way. There are two bolts on each frame rail, and be careful cos it'll fall and smack you right in the middle of the forehead and make you see stars. It didn't happen to me, but I can imagine it'd suck if it did...
Also the dip stick tube has a joint about 2 inches below where it is fastened to the bell housing, once your pan is free give it a little twist and the tube ought to slip out, be careful cos there is a lot of fluid still in the pan and it'll splash out everywhere. And no I didn't make that mistake either, but I can imagine it'd suck if I did that too.... Good luck.
