Transfer Case '90 4-R V6 Auto Trany

after some of you guys replied to my last post concerning the transfer case questions I'am really confused.
Do you fill the transfer case from the trany filler tube as if you were putting atf in the trany or does the transfer case have its own filler hole. Why does my case have a filler hole ? Of course it has a drain plug. I realize with auto and 4 wheel Dr. I use dextron III, but how much? My Toyota owners manual says the case holds 0.8 quart. how much is that in ounces? The book also says the Transmission holds 4.5 quarts after draining. one guy mentioned he drains his trany and transfer case at the same time and fills them both by putting about 6.5 quarts down the trany filler tube. Thats more then the book says?

The tranny shares the fluid with the tranny/transfer case and torque converter.

When you change the tranny fluid you drain and fill with the same amount of fluid you drained out. Don't over fill it.

When you change the transfer case fluid you drain the fluid from the lower drain plug and fill the through the top plug on the transfer case untill the fluid reaches the lower edge of the plug.(top)

you will never get all the fluid out of the tranny because of the fluid in the torqe converter.

When ya do the math on the suggested fluid volumes for both the tranny and transfer case, sometimes it just doesnt add up right. When I originally replaced the recommended amount and drove around in the yard in 4-high and then checked the level on the dipstick,, it came up a bit low. So I carefully added a small quantity, drove it, and checked it again. Still was a lil low. But I decided it was close enouhg not to hurt it and drove it around that day. I checked it again the next morning after a good warm up and topped it off. Has been OK ever since. But the total amount of fluid used was about 6.5 US quarts. I suppose the wear on clutches , etc. has allowed the tranny and t-case to hold more fluid than it would have under 'new' conditions.
