There is a small tube from the transfer case to the tail section of the transmission. On the tail section there is a breather. It is on the top passenger side. It is NOT extended. Some people believe that it is extended to under the hood. There are two breathers under the hood but those are the transmission and front diff.
With this said: (while we had the transfer case off a friend's rig) it had zero signs of dirt or water in it.
