????

the transfer case has 2 lines that come off of it and run into a little box under the passenger seat..as far as I know this is a sealed unit and is not part of the transmission cooler...
and I did get a price 308.00

holy $#@$@

Any possibility of getting a pic of your problem? I'd be interested to know exactly where (on the vehicle) you are talking about.

this is easy no digital camera

if you crawl under the passenger side of the 4runner
and find the transfer case...and off the transfer case are two lines running to the front , toward the engine compartment.
follow the lines you will find a little box under a crossmember
I would say it is l10x10 inches and the lines connect to the front of it

Is the 4WD system on your truck more than the basic part time system ?
Does it have some sort of torque sensing/distributing feature to increase traction ? If so the "box" might be part of that.

For example, my Isuzu Trooper has a Torque On Demand system in 4WD High that distributes power to the front wheels as needed (effectively make it an AWD type system allowing me to use 4WD High at high speeds on dry pavement ). It has several modules underneath as part of that.

find one
