Transfer Case Issue 02 4runner

So, im back to my tcase issue.

It is not holding a gear in 2wd or 4wd high or low. I have the push button 4wheel. I am wondering if maybe the fork broke causing it to slip when put into D or R. Has anyone dealt with this and successfully fixed the issue? I am going to pull the shifter after work today and see if the seat boot is worn or anything else noticeable. Any help would be help

The fact that it's 2nd gear and 4wd is a little concerning. The t-case shouldn't have much affect on it popping out of gear. That sounds more like a transmission issue to me. Do you have any grinding when it shifts? Does it seem like it's shifting at higher rpm's? Getting any hard shifts?

So to clear it up, it wont move. It wont shift into any gear or move without a horrible grinding sound from underneath the car. It doesnt matter where the 4wd shifter is or the actual gear shift. Going into Drive it sounds like its trying to engage and then makes a bad sound. Same with every gear I try. I cant get it to move.... I thought it was just transfer case but could be transmission as well?

Most likely more so the transmission than t-case. They're two separate entities, the shifting of gears shouldn't affect the other, and the same the other way. Are you an auto or manual?

Its an auto 3.4L V6, im leaning toward transmission issue over T case as well.

How many miles and when do you change fluids last?

How many miles and when do you change fluids last?

It has 230K the actuator has been replaced but i think that is shot as well... ? Only because my 4x4 keeps flashing so you can tell its not fully engaged.

Yes i thought it was the transmission before today. I was able to slam the 4x4 into high and then get the transfer case to catch into gear and drove it around.. Then it slips out and will not go into reverse at all... Its very frustrating but now I think it is something in the transfer that is chipped or maybe the shift fork broke and it isn't catching and going into gear.



Will a second ten transfer case bolt up to my transmission and engine? I heard that a 3.0 auto from a 2nd gen will work... Keep in mind i have SASd my truck and now my diff is on the passenger side so I am looking for a passenger side drop T case anyway..
