Hey everyone, I have some scrap aluminum and wanted to try making a transfer case knob with my new lathe. Does anyone know what the thread is?

99% sure it should be a 12x1.25mm

Some tools to determine thread diameter and pitch would go well with your new lathe :naughty:

Shoot, I seem to have lost that info. I used to have it somewhere. Most Toyota 'manual' shifters have the same thread diameter/pitch - and it matches Subaru. (which google-fu says is M12x1.25 - lending credence to JZiggy) I ran an aluminum shifter I machined for a while years back - it is brutal in the summer! I kept I little cloth bag to put over it on hot days.

These days, I just run an OEM Subaru shift knob on my 5-speed Camry... Since you don't touch the 4WD shifter often, maybe it will be ok.

Tinkerer design studio has a cool knob setup. Probably not the cheapest option, but a very neat take on knobs in my opinion.

They may not fit though. I don't see our application.
