Transfer case leaking

Anyone had any issues with the transfer case leaking oil? My wife had mentioned a burnt rubber type smell a few months ago, I didn't think anything of it until yesterday. I stepped out of the car and I smelled that familiar smell of gear oil... I slid under and saw the bottom of the transfer case is covered in oil. It's not leaving oil on the ground, I think it's more of a slow leak. I'm going to see if the dealer will take care of it under warranty, we have 30k on it.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced his and if it was covered under warranty.

haven't notice this so far, but I'm sure that it should be covered under powertrain warranty.

The dealer told me my transfer case was leaking at around the 20k mark too. They fixed it at no cost. Transparent to me, but I hope there's not an underlying problem that will rear it's head again.

This last time they said it was just a seal.

Hopefully the 5th gens do not get the transfer case actuator leak that is common on the 4th gens. It is a $2500 fix if out of warranty. I would hope Toyota changed the design but the unit looks the same.

Leak in transfer case

I have a 2014 Trail. Took it to the dealership for it's 90,000 mile service and received a call that there was a leak in the transfer case. Was quoted $1800 to fix it! He made no mention of this being covered under the powertrain warranty. Now researching my warranty.

I believe there's a TSB on this possibly. I don't know where I saved it to, otherwise I'd post it. Nvm, found it.

There are a couple threads on this. I had this problem also on my 2016 SR5. Dealer fixes under warranty but it was a huge hassle, as there was no TSB at the time and they could not believe the TC was leaking on such a new vehicle, and basically tried to imply it was my fault somehow. No problems since then, but the experience really lowered my belief in reliability of these trucks long term.
