Transfer case magnetic drain plug?

I just changed my transfer case oil to Mobil 1.

I was expecting the drain plug to be a magnetic plug, but it wasn't. I have an 05 V6.

Has anyone else noticed whether they have a magnetic drain plug or not? Do both of the diffs have magnetic drain plugs?

Yes, my 03 has a magnetic plugs on the transfer case and the front differential. Oddly the rear is not. Just did the service on all three about a week ago.

Easier to buy one.

You can make your drain plug magnetic by wrapping a wire around it (in tight coils since it's so small) and then briefly touching the end of the wires to a car battery.

Did you ever magnetize a screwdriver? Same exact principal.

Why wouldn't you just buy a magnetic drain plug? I'm sure a search online would yield at least a few merchants that sell them in the size needed.

A whole lot easier than trying to make your own magnetic field.

When I changed my diffs and transfer case oil (at 3K miles), the diffs' oil was very dark and had some debris. The transfer case oil looked "BRAND NEW" and no debris at all. I don't think a magnetic plug is needed for the transfer case.

I changed at 8K and my transfer case oil did have some shavings in it, but I'm pretty sure that is because I did grind the gears one time by improperly shifting directly into low without going to 4Hi first.

I was just surprised that the drain plug wasn't magnetic because I had thought that I had read that others' were.

Did you just put 75w-90 in your rear diff?
