transmission - chg filter or leave it alone?

It seems there are conflicting opinions as to whether or not a full flush is a good idea. Talking with a transmission place today, they said they don't do full flushes for any vehicles because of the problems a full flush can cause. They do perform the tranny filter change and replace the fluid that's in the pan.

But even that seems to have conflicting opinions because Toyota is using a proprietary synthetic tranny fluid. If leaving the transmission alone is the best option, then I'll do it. But my concern is I pull a trailer frequently with my '04 V6 4Runner and am worried about the transmission. It has 61,000 mi.

Any advice?

I would find another transmission shop.

IMHO, changing the fluid in a mechanically sound transmission should never harm it, as long is it is done properly, using the correct fluid. If you have one of the 'sealed' transmissions without a dipstick and filler tube, draining and refilling or flushing the trans is a difficult process because of the difficulty in determining the proper fill level. That may be why that shop doesn't want to do it.
