Transmission Fill Plug?

The transmission drain plug is soft metal.

Last week I removed it, and although it was torqued to exact specs, it was hard to turn. I got it out, but the 6 side socket rounded the plug surface.

When I saw that , I picked up a replacement plug. I have no interest in taking the risk for $4.

I have been doing all my vehicle maintenance since the 1980's and this is not common. The tranny drain plug as designed is 1) soft metal /aluminum and 2) the socket surface area is narrow.

As many have stated , ALWAYS remove the drain plug before you drain a drop fluid.

I've called two dealers in my area and both have given me the wrong info.
At $3-$4 a piece I think I'll just buy both.

Isn't it crazy, I rounded mine pretty good with a socket just like you, since it sits so flush. Called the dealer and asked 3 times, "it's the FILL BOLT, 24mm with a ws on it, not the drain or overflow, you have it right?" both dealers said yes yes this is it, even checked my VIN. When I show up they have the ****in hex overflow bolt sitting on the desk." I had the last dealer grab e mechnic and try to find it on their diagram.
I told him I need the new fill bolt, there are 3 bolts. he jsut gave me a stare with his mouth open, the flouride stare. Seriously feels like I'm in some twilight zone shit.

I've heard from some many parts guys, "it's a sealed transmission, lfielong fluid, we pump it in. But no one even knows the part number for the ****in fill bolt and gasket.
