Transmission Fluid change????

Hello guys

When I first bought my 2002 4runner (with 6k miles) the dealer told me that the maintenance for the transmission fluid should be done at around 20K miles. They also told me that if i did not go at around the 20K to not bother doing it after as if this is done after the said milage it could actually screw up the tranny on the car. I was not very experienced back then so i never really did it. now im at 62K miles on it and wondering wether that was a smart choice.

My questions are the following:
Should this type of service really be done. Some people say yeah others say no im a bit confused.

Can I still do this service without screwing anything up?

what kind of improvements will I get from this if any?

I have always subscribed to the drain and fill as opposed to the flush and fill theory. Our Runners have a screen, not a filter, if I'm not mistaken. This allows for several drain and fills before a filter replacement/cleaning is needed. Email me with any questions. [email protected]
