Hello All,

I am new to T4R, I have a 1999 4Runner Limited with 234,500 miles on it...I just got the truck from my father but the Transmission fluid, Transfer Case fluid or Diff fluid was never replaced .

Do you guys think it is a good idea to replace the fluids?

If Yes, what type of Fluids should I go with?

Thank You very much.

Yes, flush it out as best you can with fresh fluid and use Synthetic ATF.

I like Mobile 1 and Valvoline Full synthetic. 75w90 for the both diffs and the transfer case. I use Valvoline Full Synthetic transmission fluid made for imports. there are ratings on the back, just make sure it meets the Toyota rating.

When you do this, and since it has been so long since it has been done, remove the fill plugs on the Diffs and the Transfer case before you try to do the drain plugs. These thing are notorious for stripping and you will be in a bad place it you drain it and then cannot get the fill plugs off. I would also recommend adding anti seize to the threads when you put them back in.

I use the Valvoline MaxLife Dex/Merc (LV?) Full Synthetic for the trans fluid. I haven't done the others, but I've become a fan of Valvoline MaxLife products, so I'd probably stick with that brand for the other fluids.
