Any one know where the dipstick is for the transmission fluid on an 04 SR5 V8. Also how often should the transmission fluid be flushed and filled.

The only time it should be flushed is when the tranny is re-built.

04 and up T4R's have a "sealed" transmission, meaning there is no dipstick to check. They also say that the fluid is lifetime but you can still get the fluid drained and filled but I personally would recommend staying away from flushing the fluid, it can cause a lot of problems. I try to get mine drained and filled about every 30k.

Tranny fluid changes should be based on driving conditions. Stop and go, frequent stops vs. highway, towing, etc...

There's a sticky thread in the Maintenance section about how to service the sealed trans.

The V8 got the sealed trans in 2004; the V6 got it in 2005.

I have an 03 V6 and it does not have any disptick. I think it started with this model.

There are 15 quarts in the system, but only 3.5 quarts will drain through the plug. So actually, unless you do the flush method, you are only changing about 20% of the fluid when you drain and fill.

Toyota is known for its durability and engineering. There is a tranny temp sensor and dash light in the event the unit is working too hard. Unless it is really bothering you, I would run it for at least 75K and then do a flush.

Thanks ALLEGRO; I have 62k miles on my Runner now and i'll probably hold off until 70k for a flush with RP.
