Transmission flush or drain?

I killed a tranny on my 94 Jeep XJ doing a BG power flush, jammed up the solenoid channels with sediment and started slipping.

But anyway, my 2006 T4r has 207,000 miles on the clock and to my knowledge has never been changed. I hope the fluid lasts a 'lifetime' as they say.

My 2006 had it's first flush at 235k. I have another 10k on it since then. No issues at all. It shifted ok before the flush, but it's absolutely fantastic since. I have had several vehicles that didn't receive their first flush until they had high miles. No issues on any of them.

I personally wouldn't be scared of getting it flushed, but that's just me.

i was recently quoted for all fluid change (diffs, trans, t case) for $350ish (toyota of dartmouth, ma) and almost hopped on it but ran into scheduling issues...also thinking about doing my diffs on my own with amsoil, and possibly the trans myself (i have an 04 with dipstick). another part of me tells me that they call for lifetime on the tranny, my truck shifts smooth and engages all 4x4 systems/center lock, leave the f thing alone trying to help something that works flawlessly. i have 130k on my 04 btw.

Very nice post. My strategy is as follows:
1. Radiator/Brakes/Power Steering/Manual Transmission/ Differential/Rear Axle:
Flush it by draining and refiling it @ 75K, 150K miles or so.
Replace the radiator after 250K miles
Replace brake lines every 150K miles.

2. Auto Transmission:
Power-flush it without external machine - just the car's engine On/Off; please see the method in one of my previous posts every ~25K miles, especially if you stress it, e.g. towing a boat or RV

3. Engine Oil:
Replace SYNTHETIC oil/filter every 6 months or 4K-6K/mi.

4. Engine/Inside Compartment Air Filter:
Replace once a year.

My mechanic is emphatically against draining or filling ANY trans fluid on a high mileage vehicle where it hasnt been done before. Said if its not broke, dont fix it.

My T4R has 154k and still has the original fluid. Shifts flawlessly.

Im still wrangling with the decision. The drain/pump solution in my garage sounds like a very crappy way to spend a Saturday.

I also had 170K on my 04 V8. I had the trans flush done at Grappone Toyota in Concord NH. The dealer told me they have done hundreds of fluid exchanges on these V8's without one problem. He assured me it was a smart thing to do. I did not notice any difference afterwards- still shifted smoothly but at least I know now I am good for another 170K!
