Transmission issue

Began to have slight hesitation going between 2nd and 3rd both up and down and longer downshifting. Hovers at an rpm then finally kicks over to the correct gear. No red lining or revving, just hesitation. Also when I have maybe 300lbs of cargo, I can feel small jerks on the interstate maybe 10-15 jerks within a minute and will only happen every now and then...any ideas? Also feel much less power on interstate and when I push the gas it takes a few seconds for it to go to the correct gear and when it finally does, it’s all the power at once...even in cruise control

I’ve been told valve body, torque converter, fluid flush, etc...

Basics first, how many miles on the vehicle and how many miles on the current fluid? Have you checked the fluid level? Yours is an '03, so it should have a dipstick which makes this easier...get it up to operating temperature, park on level surface, leave the engine running and pull the stick, wipe-reinsert-remove-read.

Use a white rag or paper towel when you wipe the dipstick and post a pic of the fluid color on the rag. Red = good, orange = generally OK, brown/black = bad.

Alright I’ll try that on my lunch break. It has 272k miles and since I have owned it since 229k I’ve never had anything done to transmission

That looks like the fluid is in good condition, likely the prior owner had it flushed or otherwise serviced. If you've had it for over 40K miles, you have a good feel for normal behavior and the symptoms you're describing are a change from what you've been experiencing.

It's possible that the transmission downshift is a symptom, rather than the problem itself. My previous Tundra 4.7L V8 started hesitating under acceleration at around 120K miles, I paid the dealer to clean the throttle body and all was back to normal. Similar behavior to what you're describing, e.g. passing at highway speeds, throttle felt unresponsive and then woke up.

Hmm... how much of the transmission fluid is leaking? I had a similar experience but I also had it in reverse to drive and drive to reverse. I realized it wasn't anything else other than the transmission when there was a puddle of transmission fluid on the pavement.
