I have a 93 SR5 V-6...I have been having problems to get it to go into Reverse and Drive, so I figured the linkage needed adjustment. When I crawled underneath, I found the linkage running on the left side of the transmission.
On one end, where the rod connects to the shifter in the cab, there is no adjustment, simply a rod/cotter pin setup. On the transmission end, at the end of the shift lever which connects to the input shaft on the transmission, there is the same setup.
So, I figured I must have to adjust the position of the shift lever on the input shaft. I soaked the thing in PB Blaster, and tried turning the nut loose so I could adjust it. You guessed it, the nut twisted off. I figured I was hosed, but luckily the shift lever is so rusted on to the input shaft that it isn't coming loose any time soon.
So my questions are, first and foremost how do you adjust the linkage? After breaking the end of the input shaft, it doesn't really seem like the adjustment is there.
Next, how should I go about repairing the input shaft? Is there any way to replace that "piece" without taking the whole transmission apart?
