My transmission started to suddenly slip badly at about 247,000 miles. Took it to the dealer and they said I needed a new transmission. I had never changed out the tranny fluid, so I figured I'd try a flush and fill first. Immediately after, the Transmission started working correctly, and it's now been over 3000 miles with no other issues. I've got my fingers crossed but I'm feeling more confident that it was related to the fact that the fluid had never been changed.
Zero issues prior to this and I had actually asked the dealer on a couple of occasions whether I should change the fluid. He said it could be dangerous to change the fluid on a transmission that old when it has never been changed before. They said that sometimes varnish that have built up in the transmission over the years could actually help it work better. If that varnish was broke it up it could cause a problem. When they said new transmission, I figured I had nothing to lose. So far so good…
