Transmission Question

Look another tranmission question thread. :yo:

Question: What you cause the tranmission to hold 1st gear to long.

Reason behind the question, my 4runner seems to hold 1st gear somewhere past 30mph before final shifting into 2nd. In doing so it kind of vibrates abit then changes gears. The transmission shifts fine between 2nd, 3rd and 4th. It's only from 1st to 2nd does it do this.

Yes, I'm currently trying to weed though all the transmission threads on the site.

it should only do this when its cold. the fluid is not moving through the valve body fast enough and creating enough pressure to shift into another gear.

Ya, it will do it while I'm tooling around town (speed limit is 20-30 mph depending where your at in town)

I just find it funny since my past (2) 4runner and my companines 4runner (230,xxx and abused) didn't have this problem.

this winter in norther idaho my 4runner would not move once i put it in drive when it was cold out. (about 10 deg and colder) i added a quart of fluid to it because it what was in it was so cold that it was not returning back to the oil pan to be picked back up and was starving itself and would not have enough fluid to push through the torque converter to get me moving.
so check if your fluid is full. maybe add half a quart.
