Transmission question

I have a 1999 $runner SR5 V6 Automatic 4X4 Locking RR diff. I need a new transmission. Is there different automatic transmissions for the 1999 year model. When looking up trans it wants a productive date. 5/99 or before and 6/99 or later. I am confused. I found a used tranny for a good price but it appears it is in the later 1999 model.

as far as i know they changed the trans in 2000 and the only difference is the kick down changed from cable to electric. How used is the one you are looking at the reason i ask is i just replaced the trans in my 01 used ones where not cheap i got a remand one from Toyota for $1800 with a one year warranty just to let you know if you are planing on keeping the truck awhile

From what I have read, 96-98 is one style, 99-00 is similar but has a couple different electronic connections and 01-02 is another style as well. All are the same trans but have different electronic controls.

I would check junkyards. These transmissions are pretty tough and rarely need replaced so junkyards usually have a stockpile of them for cheap.

I bought one for my 96 with 109,000 miles for $125 with the transfer case and torque converter that came out of a rollover 2 months ago.

that is a steal the junk yard by me wanted 700 for a trans with 200k on it i told the guy he had rocks in his head

For some reason, the SLC Utah area has quite a few cheap ones. The same company I got mine from has a few others for $125 also and TONS all over the country for $350 or less.

also not easy to find for a 2001 too just because that trans was only in that truck for 2 years 01 and 02 a 96 to 2000 is a different story your right those are cheaper i did find one near me for 1,100 but it had 122k on it ill spend the extra 700 bucks and get a trans that will last the life of the truck now
