transmission Question

I have a 1997 4runner with 88K. The last couple of days I have noticed when I back out of the driveway between reverse and drive it takes a second for to engauge into dirve. It only happens when it's cold.

Has anybody elese experianced this?

Check the level of the transmission fluid. Sounds like it's kinda low.

transmission problem follow up.

I had my transmission looked at and being a 4runner fan I seriously doubt this car now. I have only 88k on my 1997 and I drive only 16 miles a day and the transmission was toast along with a cracked transfer case.

If I wanted these problems I would have bought a Ford or Chevy, but it looks like Toyota has its own share. I was totally shocked when the mechanic told me what was wrong. I had the unit rebuilt and put synthetic and a cooler on to eliminate this in the future.

I am a little disappointed in this vehicle.
